Eddie – The Heart Behind Eddie’s Legacy

Eddie was our beloved English Shepherd and our family’s first dog. When we entrusted him to a Georgia board-and-train facility, we never imagined it would change our lives forever. We found the trainer through Facebook, where she came highly recommended, and trusted her to care for our dogs. Without our knowledge or permission, she moved our dogs to another location. It was there that Eddie went missing.

Despite extensive search efforts, countless hours searching, and the help of so many people, Eddie was never found.
What followed was a heartbreaking journey filled with unanswered questions, grief, and the realization that other pet owners needed to know what could happen when they entrusted their beloved dogs to someone else.

We later learned of concerns surrounding the trainer’s history, including reports of other dogs being lost while in her care. We have also watched as she has continued to change business names and locations, making it increasingly difficult for consumers to follow her history.
Eddie’s Legacy was born from that heartbreak. What began as a mission to find answers and honor Eddie has grown into the Georgia Dog Safety Network, a resource created to bring transparency to the pet care industry and empower families with the information they need to make informed decisions.
We cannot change what happened to Eddie, but we can use his story to help protect other dogs and families. His story is our why, and his legacy is our promise to keep fighting for the ones who cannot speak for themselves.

Remi – The Dog Who Helped Start a Movement

Remi was more than a dog. He was family. He was loved, he was cherished, and he was someone who was supposed to come home.

On July 25, 2026, Remi was staying at a boarding facility in Georgia while his family was away. That evening, we received the call every dog owner fears: Remi had escaped. We were told that he had been missing for approximately two to three hours before we were contacted. We later learned that Remi had been found deceased along Interstate 85 after being struck by a vehicle.

Our family was devastated. There were questions that we couldn’t stop asking. How did Remi get out? What safety measures were in place? Why was he able to leave the enclosed area? Why wasn’t his collar and leash kept on him? And, most importantly, could something have been done differently to prevent what happened?

Those questions didn’t disappear when we brought Remi home. They followed us. After returning from our trip, we went searching along the interstate for Remi’s collar. During that search, we noticed damage to fencing along the area, including what appeared to be a section of fence that had been cut or damaged. We began documenting what we could and asking questions.

Remi didn’t get to come home. So we’re working to make sure his story helps other dogs get home safely.

Through Georgia Dog Safety Network and Eddie’s Legacy, we’re turning our grief into advocacy. We’re honoring Remi and the other dogs whose families have experienced devastating losses, while working toward a future where pet owners have more information and facilities have greater accountability for the safety of the animals in their care.
